Hourly ADX watchlist not matching hourly chart

Category:

Peter I have included a screen shot of the my ADX indicator that I use that is colored red or green depending on the DMI.  Here is my question on CELG I have the weekly and Daily slightly above 20 and on the hourly chart it is way below 20 yet on the watchlist CELG hourly is at 20.62.  What could be wrong with this?

This is a very important question and this is going to help many of our viewers. What you are seeing here is going to impact watchlists and scans. It’s not going to affect all time frames. And even then it depends on your chart settings. By default, the charts in Thinkorswim are set to start the aggregation period at market open. I encourage you to read the release notes from April 2013: https://tlc.thinkorswim.com/center/release/rel-04-27-2013.html#section_2

After reading the release notes, you can see where the setting is located. It is checked by default but in order to match a watchlist or a scan result you will have to uncheck this. The watchlists and the scans use standard start times. I think that Thinkorswim needs to change that setting so that it is unchecked by default. It will avoid a lot of support requests.

I have attached a screenshot below that shows the ADX/DMI plotted across three time frames. In that screenshot I’ve also included the chart settings screen, and the watchlist. You can see that unchecking that option causes the chart to match the watchlist.

Is there a way to set all hourly charts to default to not “start aggregations at market open?” Or do I have to open each chart in my watchlist and change the setting.

No need to respond, I just needed to make the adjustment and then save it as a new workspace in setup.
