Alerting a new 10 day high, once

Hi Pete,

I like to scan for new 10 day highs on thinkorswim by using the dailyhighlow study. I will get an alert when a stock makes a new 10 day high for the first time however, I will get another alert if it makes a new high the next day. Is there a way to get an alert only when it happens when the first time and avoiding the alert when it occurs on consecutive days?

Thank you

You mention: “using the dailyhighlow study”. Did you have a link to that so we all understand your reference point? And explain what you have done to make it scan for a new 10 day high? Once we have that we may proceed.

Sorry Pete, I attached an image to show how I made the scan. Set the length to 10, and allow the daily high so that it is “less than or equal to” the high, showing that the stock made a new high.

Ah hah, first thing I would try is to change the condition in the center from “is less than or equal to” to “crosses below”. This means the value has to be one side for the previous day and the opposite side for the current day. Two or more consecutive days would not qualify as crosses. You would need one day for this to be false before it could trigger a new alert.

I have not tested this. So I am not sure about the “or equal to” portion of your present settings and how that may be impacted by changing this to “crosses below”. Give it try and let us know.
