Watchlist or code for odd hourly timeframe

Hi Pete! Hope you are healthy and having a decent year.

I am perplexed that there are zero platforms that use any “odd” hourly scans. I am trying very hard to figure out a way to “see” a 7 Hr Timeframe and figured the easiest way was through a watchlist colorblock script. Manually writing code for a 7 hour colorblock alert. Would this be a possibility? It would seem code would follow code. Say, a simple Stochastic RSI %K > %D on  7 hours (written in code).  Im decent at simple code for TOS but have never dealt with the Tiimeframe function, “GetTime”, “secondsbeforeTime”, etc . Could you check your amazing platform skills for any possible work around for this?

The topic is "Custom time frames". And Thinkorswim does not support them for anything except charts. (which you have already noticed).

There is nothing we can do in a custom watchlist column which is not already possible on a custom scan. So trying to use a custom watchlist column as a solution is no different than trying to do this on a custom scan in Thinkorswim.

I have never seen a custom time frame created for a scan or watchlist on Thinkorswim. That does not mean its impossible or that one has not already been created. But the code required to do something like this on Thinkorswim would be extraordinarily complex. Well beyond the scope of any solutions I can provide free of charge in the Q&A Forum. But even if I were hired to build something like this, I would not even attempt it.

This platform lacks many of the most common programming tools which a developer would employ for such a solution. The solution is pretty much the same as creating a custom chart. But even after creating one, it would be just as difficult to compute any indicator from that data. Thinkorswim just does not have the programming tools to do this.

There are other platforms out there which do provide for custom time frames. One that I know of is TradeStation. And TradeStation is able to use custom time frames for charts, scans and watchlists. If you are curious to see how that would work, I have attached a screenshot below showing a scan on TradeStation for which a 7 hour time frame has been selected. (420 minutes).

Hope that helps.

Thank you Pete, appreciate it. Funny, I decided to go ahead and start the TS account process b/c I had a sneaky suspicion TOS was going to be yet another frustration quest. Best to ask the top guy to get a quick, complete answer without endless hours of googling to nowhere. Your guidance is always exceptional in these situations. Thanks again! Cheers to you and yours. Left a little something for your time.
