No results for Overnight Range Scan

I was watching https://www.hahn-tech.com/thinkorswim-overnight-range-scan-alert/ and had some problems using the scanner. Attachments show the problem I am having with the Overnight Range Scan. I would like to use the scanner to scan stocks in the 20-1200 dollar range for two items. When the purple arrow shows a breakout from the overnight highs and when the purple arrow shows a breakout from the overnight lows using a 1-minute and 5-minute chart. I have watched the video shown above and made the changes to break the scan into two separate scans.  I changed the minimum range from 10 to 20 as you suggested going to a higher value for stocks. I ran the scan all morning, I could see the alert arrow coming up on the study for stocks like COP, however, nothing came up in the scan query. If this problem can be solved I will make a donation on your website. Thanks for all the wonderful tutorials.

I see from your second screenshot you have the alert period set incorrectly for the scan engine. You wouldn’t know that unless you read their reference material. But the scan engine always runs on Eastern TimeZone. Your start time is 7:30 and your end time is 9:30. When you apply that to the Eastern TimeZone your alert zone is placed in the two hours preceding the regular market hours. Since the alert zone must be within the regular session hours, I can tell you these settings will cause the scan to fail.

Does that solve the problem? I don’t know. Perhaps something else is causing issues but that is the one that jumps out at me. So give that a test using 9:30 start time and 11:30 end time. Let us know if that solves the issue.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your help, I think your chart study is fantastic. I think that if your scan can be adjusted for stocks in these price ranges it has great potential. Unfortunately, the stock scan did not show any stocks at all. Shown in the attached files are the changes you recommended. I also attached examples of stocks today with the break of overnight lows.

We usually require additional comments/questions be posted as a comment to the original question or answer and not as a new answer. But in that does not permit the inclusion of attachments. So in this case we’ll approve this “New Answer” even though it is not an answer to the post.

The only other item that occurs to me is the fact you are using a 1 min time frame for the scan. If the breakouts occurred during the very first minute of today’s trade (which they did for the two stocks you presented) you would have had to clicked the scan button within that first minute of today’s session.
