scan alert not received minutes after market open

Hi Pete,

Condition:
volume from 1 bars ago is greater than volume from 2 bars ago

Now, if the volume at 9:30am was 1,000 and the volume at 4:00pm of the previous day was 900, I will see a chart alert value of “1” at 9:31am.  However, I won’t receive a scan alert, even though I have it set at a 1-minute aggregation.  Does the scan not recognize any bars from a previous day or pre-market?

Is there an easy solution for this?  Does the script need to be modified somehow so that the scan includes all bars in my study, even if some of those bars happen to fall outside the current day’s range?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Please review the following video:

You will find that I always recommend that folks stop using the 1 minute time frame and more importantly, why a 1 minute time frame often responds slower than scans set to a higher time frame. I have no idea why so many folks are so obsessed over a 1 minute time frame. Your are not alone. I really wish I could figure out where this nonsense comes from and that I could help everyone understand how wrong they are.

If you absolutely must use a one minute time frame then I suggest you move to a platform that can handle it. Thinkorswim runs all of it's scans on their servers. So when you run a scan on Thinkorswim you get added to a queue. When it's your turn the server runs your scan and returns the set of results. That could be several minutes after you press the scan button. And for this reason the first hour of each trading session is the worst possible time to be running any scan at all on Thinkorswim.

Move to a platform the runs the scans on the client side rather than the server side. At that point the only restriction to running your scan will be your own internet connection quality and the CPU power of your computer. (notice I said "quality" and not "speed". In this situation low latency trumps raw download bandwidth). What does that mean? Do not use any wireless internet connection. Make sure you computer is connected to your modem/router directly via an ethernet cable.
